Memorial Day observances were held at cemeteries all over Greene County, all over Iowa and all over the nation.
Many of them included VFW or American Legions honor guards. At Highland Township in Churdan, American Legion Edward English Post 198 provided military honors.
At Scranton, Boy Scouts of Troop 536 raised the American flag. Greene County graduate Gabe Bardole was speaker, and a quartet of Logan Hoyt, David Petersen, Kayleigh Harrah and Kallie Citurs sang patriotic music.
The Greene County High School band played at both the Scranton Cemetery and the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery.
Avenues of Flags were displayed in many cemeteries, including the Franklin Township Cemetery in Cooper.
